German Sagas

''German Sagas'' (''Deutsche Sagen'') is a collection of 585 traditional German legends brought together by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the Brothers Grimm. It was published in two parts between 1816 and 1818. It contains legends of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Bohemia, the Franks, the Huns, the Lombards, the Goths, and the Picts.
The introduction explains the difference between fairy tales and sagas: "The fairy tale is more poetic, the saga is more historical in nature." Sagas often contain historical characters such as kings and queens, specific places, and the year of the event, and may also include mythical elements such as magic and spirits.
